And Every Eye will see Him, Even Those who Pierced Him
Jesus says in Matthew 24: “But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken, and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. “And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.”
And Daniel writes, in chapter 7: “I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations, and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.”
“As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed within me, and the visions in my mind kept alarming me. “I approached one of those who were standing by and began asking him the exact meaning of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things: ‘These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth. ‘But the saints of the Highest One will receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, for all ages to come.’ “Then I desired to know the exact meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed, and trampled down the remainder with its feet, and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts, and which was larger in appearance than its associates. “I kept looking, and that horn was waging war with the saints and overpowering them until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was passed in favor of the saints of the Highest One, and the time arrived when the saints took possession of the kingdom.”
And John says in Revelation 1: “John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne; and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us, and released us from our sins by His blood, and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father; to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. Even so. Amen.”
To the untrained eye it looks as though I am supporting the theory of a pre-tribulation rapture. Wherein, Jesus Christ returns to the sky, meets his followers in the clouds, then reigns for 1000 years. To the trained eye, however, we realize that I am simply in way over my head. Nevertheless, using the E, in the CAGED method, we look for other texts that are similar to our immediate context, which in this case is Revelation 1. I think we’ve done a fair job, so far. But even with what we have read, the support of a pre-tribulation rapture is weak. Let’s see if we can give it a boost.
Revelation 3, beginning in verse 10; “Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell upon the earth. ‘I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown.'”
As we roll on through Revelation, we read in chapter 20; “And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.”
And Jumping back to what Paul wrote in 1st Thessalonians 4, beginning in verse 16; “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive band remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
Returning to Matthew 24, in verse 36; “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, they were marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. Then there shall be two men in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left.”
How about one more for good measure? 1st Corinthians 15–picking up in verse 51; “Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
So, there we have it. These text, of which we used the CAGED method, are irrefutable proof of a pre-tribulation rapture. We have used the E, of the CAGED method to finally put to bed the debate over pre-tribulation/post-tribulation rapture. It must be a pre-tribulation rapture! Except we didn’t, and it isn’t. Although we took a huge dose of Vitamin E, we took it improperly, and that is, out of context; or, Vitamin C. We also forgot to take our Vitamin A1, A2, and most definitely our A3. In other words, our Vitamin D must be shelved until we take the appropriate doses of our other vitamins–C, A, G (yes, it is a vitamin, more commonly called B2, or; Riboflavin–I looked it up), and E. C-Context, A1-Author, A2-Audience, A3-Aspiration, G-Genre, E, Expository exegis of examples, then…D-Divide.
One last thing for now, for soon we’ll be taking our vitamins, but today we brought our previous teachings and presuppositions with us. Dr. MacArthur, Dr. Jeffers, Dr. White and many other doctors, adhere to and teach a dispensational view of end-times, not to mention the many with Master’s degrees, such as, Jeremiah, Hagee and many others. I couldn’t even finish my Bachelor’s degree, and that in youth ministry. You know, I learned about pizza, bowling and fabulous prizes! Eschatology? We left that to the big-boy pastors. Yet here’s the rub…Those who are reading this, which hold to a pre-tribulation, end-times eschatology, read these verses of Scripture with that as the backbone. Those who don’t, didn’t. In other words our presuppositions, whether pre, mid or post-tribulation, are solidified in our minds and they, not Scripture, translate Scripture. I have not changed anyone’s mind, nor have I attempted to; yet. How could little-old I, possibly take on the big-boy pastors? I don’t know, but I am just uneducated enough to try! And I will do it soon.
“Now to him who is able to do, exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think; to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus, throughout all generations, forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever…”
